Most journals ask you to type your trades in twice — once when you take them, once when you record them. BetterTradeJourney reads the report MetaTrader 5 already produces, so the journal is populated before you open it.
In MetaTrader 5, open the Toolbox, right-click any report and save it as HTML or XLSX. Drop that file into BetterTradeJourney and every position in it is parsed — entry and exit price, lot size, commission, swap, stop loss, take profit and the exact timestamps. Nothing is retyped, so nothing is mistyped.
Win rate, profit factor, expectancy, average R:R and maximum drawdown are all derived from the imported fills. Because they come from the broker's own record rather than from what you remember of the session, the numbers do not flatter you — which is the only reason they are worth reading.
A scaled entry is three tickets in MT5 and one decision in your head. Grouping them makes the journal reflect the trade you actually took, and the statistics treat the group as a single position rather than three uncorrelated wins or losses.
Imports are matched on the broker's ticket ID, so re-uploading an overlapping statement updates existing trades instead of duplicating them. You can export a fresh report every Friday without ever cleaning up afterwards.
